Bullet holes were discovered on the wing of an American Airlines Boeing jet after it landed in Miami following a flight from Colombia, according to reports.
American Airlines Flight AA923 arrived at Miami International Airport on Monday, where a routine post-flight inspection revealed puncture marks on the right aileron of the Boeing 737 MAX 8. The aileron is a control surface that helps maintain the aircraft’s lateral balance. Despite the damage, the flight landed safely without incident.
American Airlines confirmed there were no operational issues during the flight and no injuries among passengers or crew.
“The aircraft was immediately removed from service for further inspection and repair. We will work closely with all relevant authorities to investigate this incident,” the airline said in a statement.
The aircraft had been at José María Córdova International Airport on Sunday and was completing a round trip when the damage was identified, according to aviation outlet AirLive. The number of passengers on board was not disclosed, though the 737 MAX 8 typically seats more than 160 people.
Flight tracking data indicated no delays or unusual events during the journey.
After landing in Miami, American Airlines technicians reportedly applied a temporary patch to stabilize the damaged wing surface. By Monday evening, the aircraft was ferried to the airline’s primary maintenance base at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport for further evaluation.
The jet remains grounded while engineers conduct a comprehensive assessment of the wing area where the bullet holes were found.
