Another out-of-touch celebrity, Robert de Niro, pushes division while calling for “resistance” during an interview with Nicole Wallace

Actor Robert De Niro became emotional during a recent interview with MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace, where the two discussed political polarization and the future of the United States.

Wallace opened the segment by expressing admiration for De Niro and describing the current political moment as one in which Americans concerned about the country’s direction feel aligned in purpose. She said that, given the state of national politics, it felt meaningful to be “rowing in the same direction” toward what she described as a stronger democracy.

De Niro urged like-minded Americans to become more active politically, saying unity was essential. He said he wanted to “bring people together” and objected to the idea that symbols such as MAGA branding or the American flag represent only one political group.

“I want my country back,” he said. “I don’t want everybody going around with their MAGA and the American flags like they’re the only ones. We are Americans too … because we believe in what’s right and wrong: empathy, kindness, bringing the country together, not dispersing it.”

When Wallace asked why he believes it is important to “lift people up,” De Niro appeared to struggle with emotion. He warned that division would harm the country and spoke critically about current political leadership, saying Americans who share his concerns must act to protect the nation.

Wallace agreed that the moment felt pivotal for the country’s future. De Niro responded that people should continue to “resist” political developments they oppose.
