Naked man hijacks ambulance with ‘dying’ patient inside

A naked man in Wisconsin allegedly hijacked an ambulance carrying a critically ill patient and led authorities on a dangerous high-speed pursuit, according to police records.

Investigators say Benjamin L. Feltz, 37, slipped into the driver’s seat of an ambulance in Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday while two paramedics were loading a patient into the rear. The medics heard a door shut and discovered the unclothed man behind the wheel. When they shouted at him to get out, Feltz allegedly sped away. One paramedic tried to stop him at the cab, while the other jumped out once the vehicle began moving, leaving the patient inside.

Officers soon spotted the stolen ambulance and attempted a traffic stop, but Feltz allegedly refused to pull over, triggering a chase that lasted more than 40 minutes and covered about 18 miles. Speeds reportedly exceeded 90 mph as the patient in the back feared for her life and cried out that she was dying from kidney disease.

The ambulance, with sirens blaring, tore down a dirt road at the Cranberry Creek Landfill before reaching Wisconsin Highway 73, where it swerved through traffic. Police later deployed a tire-deflation device. Authorities say Feltz then made an aggressive turn near Pittsfield, driving off-road into a muddy cornfield where the ambulance became stuck and he was arrested.

Body-camera footage shows Feltz exiting the vehicle naked while officers aimed their weapons. Police said he appeared impaired, slurring his speech and admitting he had consumed about half a bottle of a household chemical cleaner and had marijuana in his system. Records show he had two prior convictions for operating while intoxicated and no valid driver’s license.

Feltz faces four felony and six misdemeanor charges, including first-degree reckless endangerment. He is being held on $100,000 bond, according to Fox 6.
