Texas Boozy dentist accused of operating on kid while drunk — flunks sobriety test

A Texas dentist was arrested Monday for allegedly performing dental surgery on a child while under the influence of alcohol, according to police. She reportedly failed a field sobriety test after staff raised concerns about her behavior.

Kelly Buck, 36, was taken into custody at Pediatric Dentistry of Sherman, roughly 65 miles north of Dallas, after a staff member noticed signs of intoxication during a patient procedure and alerted authorities, the Sherman Police Department said.

Officers responded around noon, observed signs that Buck was allegedly impaired, and arrested her following a failed sobriety test.

“The caller alleged that there was a dentist practicing and showing signs of intoxication,” Lt. Sam Boyle told KXII, describing the situation as “very unusual.” He added, “This case is very serious, especially for the patient involved and the practice. We’re thankful that staff raised concerns and prevented a potentially dangerous situation.”

Police said Buck had completed treatment on one patient before the alert. The clinic confirmed that Buck was a temporary dentist, previously placed through Cloud Dentistry, which connects licensed dental professionals with practices in need of support.

“She was already working with a patient and scheduled to perform additional treatments when concerning behavior was noticed by a registered assistant,” the clinic said. On Wednesday, Pediatric Dentistry of Sherman wrote on Facebook, “We are deeply saddened and troubled by this situation. We are extremely concerned for the patient affected and grateful for the parent’s cooperation. We will fully cooperate with authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken.”

Buck, who has been a licensed dentist since 2016, faces a felony charge of performing surgery while intoxicated. She has denied the allegations.

“Mrs. Buck is not guilty of the charges,” her lawyer said in a statement to KXII. “She takes her patients very seriously and looks forward to blood test results that will show no drugs or alcohol were in her system. We anticipate this will clear her name so she can return to treating patients.”

She was booked into Grayson County Jail and released Tuesday on a $10,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
