Giant runaway pig with ‘maximum confidence’ storms North Carolina home looking for savory treat
A confident piglet went on a culinary adventure Monday in Ellenboro, North Carolina, barreling into a home in search of snacks – and was escorted out by a local officer after a comical standoff.
The hog, named Penelope, wandered about 58 miles west of Charlotte and quickly made herself at home while deputies were called in to handle the unusual intruder, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said. “Our communications center received one of the more unusual calls for service,” officials noted on Facebook.
“The unexpected guest showed zero fear, maximum confidence, and a clear motive: snacks. After a brief negotiation involving crackers and a bit of patience, deputies were able to convince the sus-pig-ious visitor to surrender,” the post continued. Photos captured the deputy carrying the plump, curly-tailed culprit to the patrol car, where she was safely secured behind metal bars.
The adventurous pig was then transported to Rutherford County Animal Control Services, delighting the children at the home along the way. “The kids found the situation hilarious, and honestly, so did we,” deputies wrote. “Sometimes community policing isn’t just lights and sirens. Sometimes it’s patience, laughter… and arresting a pig for breaking and entering.”
After her brief brush with the law, Penelope was happily reunited with her owner.
