Family of bears stopped skiers in their tracks at North Lake Tahoe Resort

A family of bears startled skiers by dashing across the slopes at a North Lake Tahoe resort.

Wild footage captured a large bear and two cubs running across the slopes at Northstar Ski Resort in Truckee on Wednesday, weaving past more than a dozen skiers and snowboarders.

In the video, someone can be heard shouting “stop!” and “get out of there” as the bears raced by. “We thought they were humans at first,” said Barclay Weyhrauch, who recorded the clip, speaking to ABC7News. “Then we thought they were big dogs, and finally everyone realized they were bears and started yelling ‘stop!’”

The bears disappeared as quickly as they appeared, vanishing into powder along the edge of the slope. Northstar Ski Resort sits in prime black bear territory, according to Bakersfield Now.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife confirmed it is investigating the close encounter.
