Omar needs to be investigated over ‘misleading disclosures’ to Congress on husband’s M net worth

A conservative watchdog group is calling for an investigation into Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar over her financial disclosures to Congress, which they say may have misrepresented her husband’s $30 million net worth.

The National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC), based in Virginia, urged the Office of Congressional Conduct to act immediately, citing a sudden jump in the reported value of Omar’s third husband, Tim Mynett’s, assets from 2023 to 2024. According to Omar’s filings, Mynett’s net worth went from just over $51,000 in 2023 to nearly $30 million in 2024.

NLPC chairman Peter Flaherty said, “The information in Omar’s financial disclosures, and her public statements about her finances, are simply implausible. There needs to be a real investigation.”

In her 2023 disclosures, Omar listed her husband’s winery, eStCRU LLC in Santa Rosa, California, as valued between $15,000 and $50,000. Another company he co-owns, Washington D.C.-based venture capital firm Rose Lake Capital, was reported between $1 and $1,000. By 2024, the filings claimed eStCRU LLC was worth up to $5 million, while Rose Lake Capital had jumped to $25 million.

Omar, 43, has defended the valuations, saying they “reflect the full cost assessment of the businesses in which my husband is one of several partners and do not reflect his individual share.” Neither Omar nor Mynett responded to requests for comment from The Post.

However, testimony from Mynett’s business partner, Will Hailer, CEO of Rose Lake Capital, appears to contradict the reported valuations. During a November 2024 bankruptcy case, Hailer testified that the company had almost no assets and was worth under $1 million. He added that Rose Lake had never made financial investments with its own capital and that the largest deal it handled was “less than $10 million.” Hailer also confirmed he was a managing member of eStCRU, which is “in the process of being shut down.”

eStCRU is involved in litigation with investor Naeed Mohd, who claims the company misrepresented itself as a legitimate business. Mynett and Hailer are former Democratic operatives who met while working for Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. Public records show Omar’s campaign paid another of Mynett’s companies, E Street Group, $2.8 million between 2019 and 2020.

NLPC also alleges Omar violated the House Code of Official Conduct by advising Somali-born constituents not to cooperate with federal investigators looking into social services fraud in Minnesota, where fraudsters may have stolen over $9 billion in taxpayer funds. A video cited by the group shows Omar telling constituents not to answer questions from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) without a lawyer present, which NLPC says could amount to encouraging illegal activity.

Paul Kamenar, NLPC counsel who filed the complaint, said the group has also submitted it to the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) has previously launched a probe into Omar and requested Mynett’s business records. Comer expressed concern over the rapid increase in the companies’ valuations and has since expanded the investigation internationally to include Somalia, Kenya, and the United Arab Emirates. Mynett has until February 19 to respond to the committee’s request.
