Trump Calls Jesse Jackson a “force of nature” and “a good man” with “grit” and “street smarts”

President Trump is mourning the loss of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson while reflecting on their decades-long relationship. In a Truth Social post Tuesday morning, Trump described Jackson, who died at 84, as a “force of nature” and “a good man” with “grit” and “street smarts,” and extended his condolences to Jackson’s family, according to CBS News.

Trump said he knew Jackson long before his presidency and had supported Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition. He noted that Jackson backed his administration’s criminal justice initiatives, additional funding for historically Black colleges and universities, and “Opportunity Zones” tax incentives aimed at encouraging investment in underserved communities.

Their connection dates back to the 1980s, when they appeared together at various events, including boxing matches and Jackson’s presidential campaigns. Trump provided office space on 40 Wall Street for Jackson’s Wall Street Project, and Jackson publicly praised Trump for his commitment to the effort. Jackson even jokingly referred to Trump as “the most bashful” man in the room at a 1998 conference.

Jackson’s family said he passed away peacefully Tuesday morning. He had been hospitalized in November and had been diagnosed with a neurodegenerative condition the previous year. Newsweek reports on the “unique” bond between Trump and Jackson.
