SAVANNAH, Ga. — A teacher at Hesse K-8 School was tragically killed Monday morning after her vehicle was struck by a man fleeing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

According to WTOC, ICE officers attempted to pull over Oscar Vasquez Lopez, a Guatemalan national who had been issued a final order of removal from the United States in 2024. Lopez initially appeared to comply with the officers but then fled, leading them on a dangerous pursuit.

During the chase, Lopez made a reckless U-turn and ran a red light, colliding with the vehicle of Dr. Linda Davis. Davis was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Lopez was treated for minor injuries and is now in custody.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the details of the incident, noting that Lopez had entered the U.S. illegally at an unknown date and location. He faces charges of vehicular homicide from the Chatham County Police Department.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said, “This vehicular homicide is an absolute tragedy and a deadly consequence of politicians and the media demonizing ICE officers and encouraging those here illegally to resist arrest. Fleeing from federal law enforcement is a crime and extraordinarily dangerous, putting innocent civilians at risk. Now, an innocent bystander has lost her life.”

Hesse K-8 Principal Alonna McMullen shared a statement with parents: “I wanted to make our families aware that our school has experienced the death of a teacher, who was killed in a traffic accident this morning just outside the school. Dr. Linda Davis was a beloved member of our school family, and her loss has affected us deeply.”

President Trump has called for stricter enforcement of immigration laws to prevent similar tragedies and protect communities.
