Fury as activist Teacher of the Year brands ‘MAGA’ teachers ‘lazy and pathetic’
A California teacher has stirred controversy on social media after criticizing what she called “MAGA” educators in her profession, labeling them “pathetic and selfish people.”
Noelle Carney Campbell, a teacher in the Santa Ana Unified School District, shared her comments in a TikTok video from January that has since been deleted. “How do we have so many MAGA teachers?” she asked. “Saying those two words together… makes me want to throw up in my mouth.”
Filmed in her classroom, Campbell said that unlike doctors, teachers don’t take an oath to prioritize students. She acknowledged that many educators are passionate and care deeply about children, but said the profession also allows in “some pretty lazy, pathetic, and selfish people.”

“MAGA teachers exist. They’re not really quiet about it either,” she added. “Shockingly, a lot of them work in neighborhoods they shouldn’t be around, because of how they vote against them and how they feel towards them. Our students deserve better. And I don’t know if this will ever be fixed unless we oath to this type of service.”
Campbell’s account had nearly 35,000 followers and over 1 million likes. Social media users were quick to respond. “Teachers should respect different viewpoints and keep personal politics out of the classroom,” one wrote on X. Another added, “Her intolerance kills diverse classroom thought.”

Campbell, a former “Teacher of the Year” in her district, made the post on January 27. She was laid off last year as part of budget-driven cuts affecting nearly 400 staff members. Campbell did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
