A Missouri man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he carried out a series of armed robberies that culminated in the fatal shooting of a figure skating coach at a St. Louis drive-thru.

Keith Brown, 58, has been charged with first-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, three counts of first-degree robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the death of 28-year-old Sam Linehan, according to court records.

Brown was denied bond during a court appearance Friday.

Police say the crime spree began Feb. 6 at a Jack in the Box drive-thru on South Grand Boulevard in St. Louis. According to a probable-cause statement, Brown pointed a gun into a vehicle occupied by a woman and her daughter, stealing a 9 mm handgun, a purse containing bank cards, and both victims’ cellphones. Investigators said he discharged his firearm during the robbery.

Two days later, about eight miles away, Brown allegedly entered a Dollar General store, pointed a gun at a cashier, and demanded money. Authorities said a firearm was also discharged during that incident.

On Tuesday, Brown is accused of targeting Linehan as she waited in her car at a Starbucks drive-thru on South Grand Boulevard. Court documents state he pointed a gun at her and ordered her to raise her hands before fatally shooting her. He then allegedly took her bank cards and driver’s license.

Investigators said surveillance video captured all three incidents and showed the suspect wearing a neon safety vest and hard hat. When officers executed a search warrant at Brown’s home, they reportedly recovered those items along with property believed to have been stolen from the victims and suspected narcotics.

Court records indicate Brown is a convicted felon previously found guilty of first-degree robbery and had absconded while on parole. He was taken into custody late Tuesday night.

Brown is scheduled for a confined docket hearing Thursday and a preliminary hearing March 11.

Linehan was a coach with the Metro Edge Figure Skating Club. In a message to members, the organization described her death as “an unimaginable loss” for the skating community and expressed support for athletes and families affected by the tragedy.
