Texas dad fatally shoots own daughter after ‘big argument’ about Trump
A Texas man will not face criminal charges after fatally shooting his daughter following a heated argument at his home in Prosper, about 35 miles north of Dallas.
Lucy Harrison, 23, who was visiting from the United Kingdom, died after being shot in the chest on Jan. 10. Her father, Kris Harrison, acknowledged during an inquest that he had struggled with alcoholism, had recently relapsed, and had consumed alcohol on the day of the shooting, according to reporting from the BBC.
Local authorities initially investigated the case as possible manslaughter. However, a Collin County grand jury ultimately declined to indict Harrison, and no charges were filed.
Lucy had traveled to the United States with her boyfriend, Sam Littler, who testified that Lucy and her father had argued days earlier about political issues, including President Trump, ahead of his second inauguration. Littler said Lucy and her father often disagreed over politics and other topics, including his ownership of a Glock 9mm handgun.
According to Littler’s testimony, the argument escalated when Lucy posed a hypothetical question to her father involving a woman who had been sexually assaulted. He said Lucy became upset during the exchange and went upstairs.

Later that day, shortly before Lucy and Littler were set to leave for the airport, Harrison took his daughter into a ground-floor bedroom. Moments later, Littler reported hearing a loud bang and Harrison calling out for his wife.
Littler said he ran into the room and saw Lucy on the floor while her father appeared distressed.
In a statement to police, Harrison said he had been watching the news and offered to show Lucy his firearm following a segment about gun violence. He said that as he lifted the gun, it discharged.
“I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell,” he told investigators, adding that he could not recall whether his finger had been on the trigger.

Responding officer Luciana Escalera reported smelling alcohol on Harrison’s breath at the scene.
Through his attorney, Harrison said he “fully accepted” the consequences of what happened and that he carries the weight of the loss every day.
Lucy’s mother, Jane Coates, described her daughter as passionate and deeply engaged in issues she cared about.
“She loved to have debates about things that meant a lot to her,” Coates said.
