An 18-year-old from St. Helens, Oregon, is accused of plotting a violent attack against immigration agents that allegedly included plans to kill and decapitate them, according to multiple reports.
Rayden Coleman was reportedly communicating on Discord about targeting law enforcement officers, including the father of a friend, and displaying their heads at a nearby American Indian reservation, according to statements his roommates gave to police. Authorities arrested Coleman on Wednesday on charges of conspiracy, attempted commission of a crime, possession of destructive devices, and manufacturing those devices, jail records show. He is being held on $400,000 bond. An attorney for Coleman was not immediately identified.
Investigators allege Coleman began expressing hostility toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in January after reports that federal law enforcement officers shot two people in Portland.
In messages cited by the Columbia County Spotlight, Coleman allegedly wrote to a friend that he was “sick and tired” and had been “preparing for a while,” adding that he planned to obtain a firearm and “actively kill any ICE agents” he saw harming civilians.
According to KATU 2, one of the people Coleman allegedly intended to target was a security guard at the Portland ICE facility. Authorities say his plan also included bringing the severed heads of ICE agents to the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and attempting to form a breakaway group called the “Cascadia Rangers Coalition.” Police further allege he began assembling homemade incendiary devices, commonly known as Molotov cocktails.
Friends and roommates reportedly attempted to dissuade him from carrying out the plan before contacting authorities. Court documents cited by KATU 2 quote one roommate as telling Coleman, “I think you are too good and important of a person to get locked up.”
