A Texas woman is facing serious charges after authorities say she attacked her boyfriend with a hammer at a church, leaving him unconscious, and then attempted to cover up the crime despite claiming she had “nothing to hide.”

Abigail Molina, 32, was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, theft, and tampering or fabricating physical evidence in the death of 64-year-old Gilbert Parker, according to court records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Parker was found on January 18 at Old Path Baptist Church in China Grove, east of San Antonio. According to police, he was unconscious, partially unclothed, and covered in what appeared to be dried blood in a garden shed converted into living quarters. Blood was reportedly present throughout the shed. Parker was taken to a local hospital, later transferred to another facility, but was unable to communicate.

The next day, Molina contacted China Grove police, claiming she had “nothing to hide” and that the incident was self-defense during an altercation that led to Parker’s hospitalization. Parker was pronounced dead on January 20. An autopsy revealed head lacerations, including a possible skull fracture that caused bleeding in his brain.

Investigators reported that Parker’s cellphone, wallet, and 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck were missing. Authorities also said church members cleaned the scene, removing blood and other personal items, including drug evidence. Court documents describe Parker and Molina as being in a strained relationship, with Parker reportedly more involved and possessive, and the couple having past arguments.

Authorities say Molina attempted to alter Parker’s truck by sanding and spray-painting it, then cleaning blood stains at a car wash, before selling it for $300 in Houston.

Police also learned from Molina’s ex-boyfriend that she had called him on January 15, crying and admitting she hit Parker repeatedly with a hammer after blacking out during an alleged altercation. Investigators later recovered the hammer, missing a claw, from a stormwater drainage culvert, which matched the skull injury found on Parker.

Molina is in custody pending further legal proceedings. Parker’s obituary described him as a “man full of life and music.”
