Guy Accused of Breaking Into Little Caesars to Sell Pizzas

Customers who ventured out into a North Carolina snowstorm for a hot pizza may have received an unexpected surprise along with their order.
Police in Kinston say 41-year-old former employee Jonathon Hackett is accused of breaking into a Little Caesars restaurant after hours, turning on the kitchen equipment, and selling pizzas to customers who had no idea anything was out of the ordinary—while keeping the money for himself, according to the News & Observer.
In a statement, authorities said Hackett allegedly entered the restaurant on two separate occasions. The first incident reportedly happened Sunday night after a powerful storm dropped up to 14 inches of snow in the area. During that break-in, investigators say he prepared pizzas, sold them to customers, and kept all of the proceeds.
When Hackett allegedly returned for a second attempt, employees were inside and tried to prevent him from entering, police said. That encounter escalated into a physical struggle, leaving Hackett injured. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and then arrested, WSOC reports.
Hackett now faces multiple charges, including felony breaking and entering, felony obtaining property by false pretenses, felony larceny after breaking and entering, misdemeanor breaking and entering, and a curfew violation. Investigators have not disclosed how many pizzas were made or sold during the unauthorized “shift,” according to the Charlotte Observer.
