Mother Furious: School Blamed After Daughter Hit by SUV During Chaotic Anti-ICE Protest at Nebraska High School (VIDEO)

A Fremont High School student in Nebraska was struck by a red SUV during a student-led protest outside the school last month, resulting in minor injuries. The student’s mother says she is upset with the school’s handling of the situation and believes more could have been done to supervise students.

The protest took place outside Fremont High School when dozens of students walked out of class to demonstrate against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Video footage captured by News Channel Nebraska shows a red SUV hitting a student who was standing in front of it.

In an interview with local station WOWT, the student’s mother questioned whether students fully understood the issue they were protesting and expressed concern about how the demonstration unfolded.

“My daughter was allowed to make her poster in class, in school, in career class,” she said. “Where are the teachers and why weren’t they paying more attention to what these kids were doing?”

She added that she believes the school bears some responsibility for what happened.

Fremont Public Schools released a statement acknowledging the event. The district described the protest as not school-sanctioned and said staff were reminded to remain nonpartisan in discussions with students after administrators became aware of rumors about a possible walkout.

The statement explained that schools are not allowed to physically prevent students from leaving campus or gathering on public sidewalks. Students who participated in the walkout were marked with an unverified absence, and parents were notified. Staff members were present to monitor the situation and encourage safe behavior.

The district emphasized that while it respects students’ rights to express their views through peaceful demonstrations, student safety remains a top priority. Officials said they are reviewing the incident with staff, first responders, and community partners to determine if additional steps can be taken to prevent similar situations in the future.

Fremont police later cited six individuals in connection with the incident, including the driver for leaving the scene and the injured student for her involvement.
