I don’t want anything to do with friend’s son who is getting out of prison
DEAR ABBY:
I became friends with “Brenda” several years ago, and we enjoy a close friendship with many shared interests. About a year into our friendship, she confided that she has a son who was in prison for a crime I cannot morally forgive. At the time, I didn’t see a problem continuing our friendship, since he was incarcerated and our paths didn’t cross.
Recently, Brenda told me that her son will be released from prison in a few months and will be living with her. She expects that I will meet him and has suggested that he join some of the activities we have shared.
How can I let Brenda know that I do not wish to have any contact with her son, while still maintaining our friendship? Is that even possible?
