Burger King brawl lands five workers in jail after gun flashed in beef over tardiness

A late shift at a Georgia Burger King erupted into chaos Thursday, as a fight between employees escalated so badly that dozens of police officers rushed to the scene—and five workers ended up in jail, some still in their work uniforms in mugshots.

The incident unfolded at the Augusta location after two staffers arrived late, sparking tensions that quickly spiraled out of control, according to the Augusta Press.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to reports of shots fired. “Multiple units and EMS are on scene at Burger King, 3407 Deans Bridge Road for a large fight involving employees where it was reported that a gun had been used and shots were fired,” the department posted on Facebook. “Although no shots were fired, multiple employees were fighting upon deputies’ arrival. One employee did have a gun that he was pointing at another person. All are being arrested and will be transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center. Charges to follow.”

When deputies arrived, employees were still fighting and one was reportedly pointing a gun, though no one admitted to using it. Surveillance footage did not capture the firearm, so no gun charges were filed, the Augusta Press reported.

The five employees—Malcolm Collier, 19; Devin Lewis, 17; Octavione Collier, 19; Kailah Davis, 18; and Anaja Kelly, 20—were charged with disorderly conduct and fired by the restaurant.

“This is unacceptable and not the kind of guest experience that team members are trained to offer, so our franchisee moved quickly to terminate the employment of those involved,” a Burger King spokesperson told People magazine.

The day after the melee, the restaurant already had a “Now Hiring” sign posted in the window.
