Federal Agent Opens Fire After Illegal Alien Tries to Run Him Over During Immigration Operation in Los Angeles – Border Patrol Agent Injured
A federal agent fired his weapon Wednesday morning after a suspect from El Salvador attempted to run him over with a vehicle during an immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles County, authorities said.
The suspect was not struck by gunfire and initially fled the scene on foot before being taken into custody by federal agents. A Border Patrol agent was injured during the incident.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, the operation began around 7:05 a.m. PST in Compton, California, and targeted William Eduardo Moran Carballo, an illegal alien from El Salvador described as a violent criminal involved in a human smuggling operation. DHS said Moran Carballo has two prior arrests for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant and was issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge in 2019.
DHS stated that Moran Carballo attempted to evade arrest by using his vehicle as a weapon and ramming law enforcement officers. Fearing for his life, a federal agent fired defensive shots. The suspect was not injured by gunfire but was later apprehended. A Customs and Border Protection officer sustained injuries during the encounter.

DHS officials said vehicle attacks against officers have surged, reporting a 3,200% increase, which they attribute to sanctuary policies and guidance that encourage illegal aliens to evade arrest and resist enforcement actions. DHS said the situation remains under investigation and additional details will be released.
This marks the third DHS or ICE officer-involved shooting this month.
Earlier in the month, federal agents shot two illegal aliens from Venezuela during an enforcement action in Portland, Oregon. DHS said an agent fired a defensive shot after fearing for his life when a vehicle fled the scene.
In a separate incident, an ICE agent earlier this month fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis after authorities said she used her vehicle as a weapon.
