A 70-year-old woman died last year after riding the Revenge of the Mummy roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida, according to a newly updated state report. The woman, whose identity has not been released, became unresponsive after riding the indoor coaster on November 25 and was transported to a hospital, where she later died, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) reported in its quarterly theme park incident summary. The report did not include further medical details, and FDACS said it does not receive updates on patients’ conditions after the initial report due to privacy rules. Universal Studios declined to comment, citing pending claims.

State records indicate that 21 medical incidents have been linked to Revenge of the Mummy since it opened in 2004, ranging from nausea and dizziness to a vertebrae fracture and a seizure, WFLA reported. The ride, which is fully enclosed, can reach speeds of about 40 mph and features a drop of roughly 39 feet, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The incident comes amid increased scrutiny of ride safety at Universal Orlando. In December, five lawsuits were filed in Florida claiming riders at the resort’s new Epic Universe park sustained “severe and permanent injuries” on the Stardust Racers coaster. The lawsuits allege negligence and product liability by Universal and ride manufacturer Mack Rides. The filings followed the October death of 34-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, who became unresponsive after riding Stardust Racers. An autopsy determined he died from multiple blunt impact injuries, ruling the death accidental. Universal has said it does not comment on active litigation, and Mack Rides has not publicly responded.
