Dilbert Creator Scott Adams Dies at 68
Scott Adams, the creator of the long-running comic strip Dilbert, has died at age 68, according to Variety. Adams had been battling metastatic prostate cancer.
News of his death was shared by his former wife, Shelley Miles, through the Scott Adams School, previously known as Coffee With Scott Adams. In a final written message dated Jan. 1, 2026, Adams said his body had failed while his mind remained clear. In the statement, he wrote that he had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and expressed hope for eternal life.
Earlier Tuesday, Miles told TMZ that Adams had been receiving hospice care at home for about a week as his condition declined. She said family members, including herself, her sister, and Adams’ stepdaughter, were with him around the clock, supported by visiting nurses. She added that Adams had begun experiencing confusion in his final days.
Adams revealed last year that his prostate cancer had spread to his bones, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. On his podcast Real Coffee With Scott Adams, he had openly discussed his deteriorating health, saying he was growing progressively weaker and believed his chances of recovery were virtually nonexistent. He told listeners as early as May 2025 that he did not expect to live much longer.
At the height of its popularity, Dilbert ran in roughly 2,000 newspapers across 65 countries and became a defining workplace satire of the 1990s and early 2000s. The strip was widely dropped in 2023 following controversial comments Adams made on his podcast about race. Adams later said the removals were part of a broader shift in the comics industry and connected them to his public criticism of what he described as “wokeness.”
