Brigitte Bardot’s husband has shared new details about the final days of the legendary French actress and activist, who died at the age of 91.
Bernard d’Ormale told Paris Match that Bardot had recently undergone two surgeries related to cancer and had been suffering from severe back pain. According to him, her back had repeatedly slipped out of place, leaving her in constant discomfort. During moments of intense pain, he said, she would sometimes tell him she was exhausted from suffering and would say, “I’m fed up, I want to leave,” as reported by USA Today.
D’Ormale said Bardot died peacefully in her bed at their home in Saint-Tropez in the early hours of Dec. 28, surrounded by their cats. He said he had been resting beside her when she softly called him by his private nickname, “Pioupiou,” and then passed away. He described her expression as calm and serene, saying she suddenly looked “incredibly beautiful again, just like in her youth.”

Bardot rose to international fame in the 1950s and 1960s, becoming a symbol of sexual liberation in French cinema. In later years, she withdrew from acting and devoted much of her life to animal rights activism, while also drawing controversy for her far-right political views.

According to the French publication, Bardot will be buried in the marine cemetery in Saint-Tropez in her family’s vault. Her funeral was held Wednesday, with a private service followed by a public homage, the Associated Press reported.
