This story sounds like something out of a comedy sketch—but it appears to be real. A Craigslist post from Minneapolis claims to be from a daycare center looking to hire up to twenty child actors.

Since anyone can post on Craigslist, it’s possible this is just a prank. But considering the bizarre schemes uncovered in Minneapolis recently, there’s a chance it could actually be serious.

The post reportedly offers generous pay for the actors it hopes to hire. PJ Media reported:

“Is a Minneapolis ‘Daycare’ Trying to Hire Child Actors on Craigslist? Either a fake daycare is trying to hire children to restart taxpayer funding, or someone is pulling an extraordinary practical joke on Craigslist users.”

The listing, from an entity called “Help Us Daycare,” advertises a three-day contract for child actors in Ventura Village. According to the post, the daycare lost state funding due to “white supremacy” and now needs 20 children to show up so that it appears functional when state investigators arrive. The listing reads like something out of a satire—but given the Minnesota daycare fraud investigations recently uncovered, perhaps it deserves a closer look.

The post continues, “Due to this insane poor decision clear in white supremacy, we had to close our doors immediately. We must prove we are a functional daycare to get the funding back. The issue is, the ENTIRE client base has already found new daycare services so we need to find new client base quickly.”

The desperate tone doesn’t end there. The listing adds: “To help hurry this state vetting processes, we are looking to hire 20 child actors for 3 days, while state is present on site. We pay up to $1500 per actor, per day. If you are interest, please send your child’s age and a note of what makes your child a special actor. Submit phone number as well, as we will be doing quick phone interviews as part of hire process.”

It’s hard to tell if this is a hilarious practical joke or a sad attempt to manipulate government funding. Either way, it reads like something straight out of the Babylon Bee.
