Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has claimed that Iran is engaged in what he described as a full-scale war with the United States, Israel, and Europe, according to reporting by the Associated Press on Saturday.
Pezeshkian made the remarks in an interview published on the website of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, amid rising tensions between Iran and Western nations.
“We are in a full-scale war with the U.S., Israel and Europe; they don’t want our country to remain stable,” Pezeshkian said.
Additional comments from the Iranian president were reported by The Hill, in which he described Iran as being under pressure on multiple fronts.
“They are besieging us from every aspect, placing us under difficulty and constraint — economically, culturally, politically, and in terms of security — while raising expectations within society,” Pezeshkian said. “They block our sales, our trade, and our exchanges, while expectations among the public continue to rise. As a result, we must all work with full strength to fix the country.”
Pezeshkian also stated that the current conflict is more complex and challenging than the eight-year Iran-Iraq War that began in 1980 and resulted in more than one million casualties.
Recent U.S. and Israeli strikes have targeted Iranian nuclear and military capabilities, reportedly killing approximately 1,100 people. Iranian missile attacks in response have killed 28 Israelis, according to the Associated Press.
The comments come ahead of a scheduled meeting on Monday between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where discussions are expected to focus on the Gaza peace plan and broader regional tensions.
