America First Legal Blasts Boston University for Failing to Protect Conservative Student from Leftist Death Threats After Reporting Illegals to ICE

America First Legal (AFL) is criticizing Boston University (BU) for failing to protect one of its students, Zac Segal, who has received credible death threats from radical activists after reporting suspected illegal immigrants to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Segal, president of BU’s College Republicans, noticed suspicious activity at an Allston car wash and alerted ICE, leading to the arrest of nine individuals living in the U.S. illegally.

After posting about the bust on social media, Segal became the target of online harassment, doxxing, and violent threats. According to documents provided to Breitbart News, messages included threats such as, “If I ever see you I’m killing you and leaving your dead body on the sidewalk,” “We’re coming for you,” and “I’ll be waiting outside your little event tonight.” Posters on campus also labeled him a “racist and fascist” with “no place” at BU.

Instead of providing support, BU officials reportedly advised Segal to avoid in-person classes and switch to remote learning, acknowledging they could not guarantee his safety on campus. Representing Segal, AFL sent a letter demanding BU allow him to transfer to its Washington, D.C. campus so he could continue his education safely, without incurring extra costs.

“Boston University must protect its students, not force them into hiding,” said AFL Senior Counsel Emily Percival. AFL stressed that reporting suspected violations of federal law is legal and highlighted the contrast with Olivet Nazarene University, which publicly condemned threats against a student and provided accommodations.

BU President Melissa Gilliam responded in the Daily Free Press, urging the community not to focus on “skin color” or “political views” to avoid “fostering division and pain,” but she did not specifically address the threats or outline safety measures.

Segal defended his actions on X, stating, “I reported suspicious activity to law enforcement because that is what any American should do. My intention was simple: to protect my community and uphold the rule of law.” He noted that the arrested individuals were confirmed by the Department of Homeland Security to be in the country illegally and emphasized the impact on unemployed Americans.

AFL’s letter cites Massachusetts law requiring universities to prevent foreseeable harm and BU’s own policies mandating student safety. The organization has given BU a deadline to provide accommodations or risk legal action.
