Dallas police arrested two Christian street preachers on a public sidewalk outside the American Airlines Center, sparking widespread criticism and renewed debate over religious liberty and First Amendment rights.
The incident occurred on December 18, 2025, as fans gathered for the Dallas Mavericks’ game against the Detroit Pistons. The two men, affiliated with the “Testimonies of God” ministry, were peacefully preaching and sharing the Gospel on public property when officers intervened and took them into custody.
Video of the arrest has since gone viral, with many viewers calling the actions of Dallas police an alarming example of government overreach. Critics argue the preachers were exercising constitutionally protected speech and religious expression, yet were treated as criminals for refusing to comply with what they describe as arbitrary law enforcement orders.
According to the ministry, the men were preaching as crowds arrived at the arena. “Mavericks vs. Pistons, while the game was getting started and fans flooded to the arena, the Gospel went forth outside. We were arrested for preaching Christ on the public sidewalk, yet the Word of God was not hindered. Many souls heard. Many great Gospel conversations had, Bibles were given, and Christ was exalted,” the group wrote on Facebook.

Footage shared by Dallas Express captures the tense exchange between the preachers and police. In the video, one preacher asks an officer, “You only, what, told me twice?” Moments later, the officer grabs his arm.
“So what’s the charge, officer?” asks the person recording the encounter.
“Interference with public duties,” the officer responds.
“So this officer just arrested my fellow brother because he’s on public property and asking questions,” the cameraman says as officers escort the preacher away.
The arrested man is then brought to a group of officers, handcuffed, and seated beside the second preacher. “Why am I being arrested, officer?” he asks.
“Because I told you to back off twice, and you didn’t do it,” the officer replies.
The arrests have intensified concerns among faith advocates who say Christians are increasingly targeted for expressing their beliefs in public spaces, particularly in large, Democrat-led cities. Legal experts and civil liberties groups are now questioning whether the actions of Dallas police violated constitutional protections guaranteed to all Americans.
