Former Fox TV Anchor Charged with First-Degree Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Her Elderly Mother to Death on Halloween
A tragic Halloween morning in Wichita, Kansas, turned deadly when Angelynn Mock — a former Fox TV anchor — was arrested for allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers, to death inside their home.
Mock, who once served as a fill-in anchor for KTVI Fox 2 in St. Louis, is being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond and faces first-degree murder charges.
Police say the shocking incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. Friday in a quiet suburban neighborhood. Neighbors reported seeing Mock covered in blood and stumbling into the street, pleading for help.
“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with blood all over her hands and body, asking us to call 911,” neighbor Alyssa Castro told KAKE News. Castro said Mock took her phone and ran back inside to make the emergency call herself.

During that 911 call, Mock allegedly admitted to stabbing her mother, claiming she did it “to save herself.” When officers arrived, they found Avers unresponsive in her bed, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to a nearby hospital but pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
Avers was a respected marriage and family therapist at Wichita Counseling Professionals, known in her community for her compassion and decades of service.
Mock was arrested at the scene and remains in custody as detectives continue to investigate. Authorities have not yet revealed a motive or explained what led to Mock’s claims of self-defense.
