Morning Consult polling has revealed that President Donald Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 45%, with 53% disapproving. Surveys have also shown that many Americans are blaming Republicans more than Democrats for the government shutdown. Mounting frustration has reportedly deepened public dissatisfaction with Trump’s overall performance.

A Reuters/Ipsos poll shows 40% approve and 58% disapprove of Trump’s performance, slightly lowering his net approval.
An Economist/YouGov poll found that 41% blame Trump and congressional Republicans for the shutdown, versus 30% for Democrats. A Harvard CAPS/Harris survey reports 53% hold Republicans responsible.
Trump’s average second-term approval is 42%, per Gallup, similar to former President Joe Biden’s but below past presidents. Over two-thirds rated the economy as fair or poor.
The Economist/YouGov poll found that most Americans favor compromise to end the government shutdown. According to the poll, 53% of Americans disapprove of Trump’s management of the shutdown, while 35% approve.
About two-thirds of participants have said Congress should reach a deal even if it requires giving up some priorities. 71% have supported providing back pay to furloughed federal employees.
Economist/YouGov also found that Trump’s overall job approval has remained at 40%, with modest gains among women, older adults, and Hispanic voters. Roughly one in five Americans reported being personally affected by the shutdown.
