Democratic National Committee STILL Struggling to Pay Off Kamala Harris Campaign Debt Nearly a Year Later
Nearly a year after the 2024 election, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is still covering outstanding debts from Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign.
Despite raising more than $1 billion during her bid, Harris’s campaign still ended up with significant debt. According to recent Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, the DNC paid $1.6 million in September alone toward these obligations.
The campaign spent $1.49 million on media production and consulting, $106,312 for data services, and $21,762 to rent space at a Grand Rapids, Michigan, community center for an October 2024 event featuring billionaire investor Mark Cuban, who promoted Harris as a “pro-business candidate.” Since Election Day, the DNC has reportedly covered more than $20 million in campaign debts, Axios noted.
Harris raised over a BILLION dollars for her Presidential run and was still so unable to stay within budget that the DNC is having to funnel countless more tens of millions into the open maw of her campaign debts. This is fiscal insanity https://t.co/cyPSzGLQiX pic.twitter.com/oKFDj7EdVf

For comparison, former President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign also ran a significant debt, which took the DNC three years to fully pay off. Former DNC chairwoman Donna Brazile has previously noted that the party was left with considerable financial obligations following that election.
After President Donald Trump’s victory in November 2024, Harris reached a “handshake deal” with the DNC under which the party agreed to cover $20.5 million in outstanding bills, according to The New York Times. The scale of the spending and resulting debt has drawn attention and commentary as party officials continue managing the campaign’s financial obligations.
