Jay Leno Is Worried About the US
Comedian and former late-night host Jay Leno has spoken out following the murder of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, calling the incident a disturbing sign of the current state of discourse in America.
Appearing on the Tim Conway Jr. radio show, Leno said the killing represented more than just violence—it marked “the death of free speech” in the U.S., according to Fox News.
“This wasn’t some random act,” Leno said. “It’s the death of free speech—to think someone is so incapable of responding with words that they resort to a gun to ‘win an argument.’”
He expressed particular concern that the shooting occurred on a college campus, a place traditionally associated with open debate and the exchange of ideas. “Are we really at a point in this country where, if you don’t agree with someone, the response is to shoot them?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin also addressed the tragedy, though in a more subtle and inclusive tone during a concert in London. As reported by BuzzFeed, Martin encouraged fans to “send love” wherever it was needed.
“Raise your hands like this and send love,” Martin said. “To your brother or sister, to families who are suffering, to Charlie Kirk’s family.” He continued, “Send it to people you disagree with—but send them love anyway. Send it to peaceful people in the Middle East, in Ukraine, in Russia.”
