A trip to urgent care turned into an unexpected stay for a New Hampshire woman who says she was accidentally locked inside the clinic after staff apparently forgot she was still there. [uexpress.com]
According to reports, Tia Chandler visited an urgent care facility in Keene, New Hampshire while suffering from an asthma attack. After receiving a steroid shot, Chandler said a staff member told her they would be right back. Unfortunately, nobody ever came back. [uexpress.com]
After waiting for some time, Chandler reportedly left the examination room to look for an employee. Instead, she found the facility completely empty. No nurses. No doctors. No receptionist. Nobody. [uexpress.com]
Things became even more surreal when she attempted to leave the building and triggered the alarm system. Realizing she was apparently trapped inside a closed medical facility, Chandler called her husband, who in turn contacted police to help get her out. [uexpress.com]
“I can’t believe this just happened to me,” Chandler told local media, saying she had dismissed the possibility earlier because being locked inside a medical office seemed like something that only happens in movies. [uexpress.com]
A spokesperson for the urgent care provider said the company apologized to Chandler and has taken steps to ensure the situation does not happen again. [uexpress.com]
The incident raises an obvious question: If you’re a patient receiving treatment, shouldn’t someone at least do a head count before locking the doors and heading home?
Apparently not.
For one unlucky patient, a routine visit to urgent care briefly became an escape room.
