MIAMI — Passengers on an American Airlines flight from Baltimore to Miami got more than the usual tray-table lecture when a woman allegedly stripped during the trip and engaged in indecent behavior before being met by law enforcement at the gate.

The incident happened Sept. 11 aboard American Airlines Flight 1779, which departed Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and landed at Miami International Airport around 11:23 p.m., according to reports citing law enforcement and airline communications.

The passenger was identified in reports as Katy Inzer, 46. Authorities said she allegedly removed her clothing during the flight and behaved inappropriately in view of other passengers. A flight attendant was alerted, and the crew reported the situation through the aircraft’s communications system before the plane arrived in Miami.

There are bad flights, there are uncomfortable flights, and then there are flights where the cabin crew has to decide whether “please fasten your seat belt” should be followed by “and also your pants.”

American Airlines said law enforcement met the aircraft because of a disruptive customer, who was removed after arrival. Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reportedly met the plane at Gate D2 in Terminal N.

Reports said Inzer appeared intoxicated when officers contacted her, with signs including bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol. She allegedly told authorities she had consumed several drinks during a delay but did not remember the midair incident.

The case was referred to the FBI because crimes aboard commercial aircraft can fall under federal jurisdiction. No major injury was reported, and the flight continued to Miami rather than diverting.

The episode comes amid continued concern over unruly passenger behavior, ranging from drunken outbursts to assaults and sexual misconduct aboard flights. Airlines have spent the past several years reminding travelers that an airplane is not a basement party with wings, even if the drink cart sometimes gives people the wrong idea.

For the other passengers, the flight likely became one of those travel stories that begins with “You are not going to believe this” and somehow gets worse from there.

The woman was taken into custody after landing, according to reports. Further details on charges or federal action were not immediately clear.
