A Phoenix grandfather erupted in a burst of raw emotion during a sentencing hearing Wednesday, leaping forward and pummeling the man convicted of murdering his Army veteran son‑in‑law.
Courtroom Explosion
Alberto Ontiveros Sanchez, 55, charged across the Maricopa County courtroom around 10:30 a.m. and hammered several punches into the back of Abel Uribe’s head as the killer sat waiting to receive a life sentence for the 2022 murder of David Navidad‑Parra, 27.
Witnesses said Sanchez snapped after seeing Uribe “laughing and snickering” during the proceeding, according to statements made by his attorney.
Attorney: ‘He Lost It’
Defense attorney Christian Leuders told the judge that Sanchez has been a model citizen with no criminal history, works full‑time, and supports his children and grandchildren. He argued that the grieving grandfather simply broke under the weight of the moment.
“He’s been a model citizen for his entire life,” Leuders said, adding that the emotional shock of seeing Uribe’s demeanor pushed Sanchez past his limit.
