Actor David Charvet, known for his role on “Baywatch,” was involved in a fatal accident involving a dog early Thursday morning in Malibu.
According to a spokesperson for the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, the incident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Cross Creek Road. Two dogs belonging to Vera Errico were reportedly off their leashes when they ran into the roadway as Charvet was driving his pickup truck.
Authorities say Charvet attempted to avoid the animals by swerving, but one of the dogs was struck and killed. The sheriff’s spokesperson stated that, based on the initial information, the dogs were not on leashes and the driver tried to evade them before the collision occurred.
Charvet stayed at the scene and contacted authorities to report what had happened. A representative for the actor also confirmed that he remained there until law enforcement arrived.
The representative added that Charvet cares deeply about animals and is himself a responsible dog owner, emphasizing that he would never intentionally harm one. They also described him as being shaken by the incident.
When contacted by phone, Charvet declined to comment and directed inquiries to his publicist.
Charvet, who was born in France, rose to fame in the 1990s playing Matt Brody on “Baywatch” and later Craig Field on “Melrose Place.” After leaving acting, he moved into the construction industry and became a partner with Jones Builders Group, a residential contracting company based in Los Angeles.
