A musician hired to perform for residents at an elderly care facility in Los Angeles has been charged with rape following an incident captured on surveillance cameras.

Jonathan Michael Alvarado was recorded undressing inside the room of a 61-year-old patient who has lived at the facility for several years and suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. The footage reportedly shows him later disposing of a condom in the trash and putting his clothes back on, according to Fox 11.

The incident has sparked outrage among family members. One relative, identified as Anderson, described her reaction: “I couldn’t believe it. Then I was angry, and I screamed, and I cried.”

Alvarado reportedly played the piano on a voluntary basis for residents of the elderly care facility.
Cameras the elderly woman’s daughter installed in her room caught the horrific crime.
The footage shows caregivers rushed to check on the woman after the disturbing footage triggered alerts.

In response, the patient’s family has filed a $25 million lawsuit against the owners of The Palms La Mirada. The lawsuit states that the June 10, 2025 assault was at least partially documented by surveillance video or audio recordings.

The legal filing also alleges systemic failures on the part of the facility, including lapses in access control, staff screening, monitoring, reporting, and enforcement of resident protection policies. It claims these failures made the assault possible and were not unavoidable.

The Palms La Mirada released a statement to ABC, emphasizing that resident safety is their primary concern. “We are disturbed by these allegations and will fully cooperate with any criminal investigation,” the statement read.
