Dear Advice,

My 11-year-old daughter, Amber, recently told me that during recess she went back to her classroom to retrieve her jacket and saw her homeroom teacher in a compromising situation with her history teacher. She said they didn’t notice her and that she left immediately, feeling very upset. Amber is not one to make up stories, so I am struggling with how to respond.

I am torn between addressing this directly with the teachers or administration and leaving it alone, especially since there is a possibility, however small, that Amber could have misinterpreted what she saw. My concern is that confronting them without being certain could be embarrassing or harmful for all involved, but I also don’t want to dismiss a situation that could be inappropriate.

I would greatly appreciate any guidance on how to approach this sensitively and responsibly.
