Illinois law enforcement agencies, including a SWAT team, issued a “shelter-in-place” order Thursday morning while officers executed a warrant at a residence in Lake in the Hills.
According to the Lake & McHenry County Scanner, authorities were investigating a report that a man possessed 38 rounds of ammunition — a mix of long gun and handgun rounds — without holding a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card.
At approximately 9:50 a.m., the SWAT team and additional officers entered the home of 20-year-old Joel Fernandez in the village of Lake in the Hills. Fernandez was taken into custody and later charged with four counts of possessing ammunition without a valid FOID card, a Class A misdemeanor under Illinois law.

Less than an hour after officers entered the residence, authorities lifted the shelter-in-place order. NBC Chicago reported that in a 10:45 a.m. social media update, police stated, “There is no longer a threat to public safety. Thank you for your cooperation in this law enforcement matter.”
