Authorities in Florida have arrested a 34-year-old man accused of preventing a woman from leaving his apartment during what was supposed to be a date.

Saady Castellanos Triminio faces charges including robbery, child neglect, false imprisonment, and battery by strangulation. According to a Miami police probable-cause affidavit, the woman told investigators she met Castellanos Triminio earlier in February through a social-media dating app. After speaking by phone, she agreed to travel from Orlando to Miami by train on Friday, bringing her 3-year-old daughter with her.

Police say Castellanos Triminio picked them up at the train station, and the pair had planned to go out for dinner. Instead, he ordered pizza and took them to his apartment in the 7800 block of Northeast Bayshore Court. The woman later told officers she felt uneasy upon arriving, noting the home appeared dirty and lacked basic items such as toilet paper.

Despite her discomfort, she stayed for a time and talked with him. According to the affidavit, Castellanos Triminio later asked for a hug and kiss, which she declined, telling him she only wanted to be friends. She then gathered her belongings and said she intended to leave.

Investigators say Castellanos Triminio became angry and told her not to go, claiming it was too dangerous. He allegedly bear-hugged her and physically blocked her from exiting the room. When she began texting a friend that she was in trouble, he reportedly grabbed her phone. As she screamed, police say he covered her mouth and nose with his hand, making it difficult for her to breathe.

The woman managed to break free and locked herself and her daughter in a room, where she contacted her friend. The friend called 911. Officers arrived at the apartment and asked the friend to have the victim make noise so they could locate her inside. Castellanos Triminio eventually opened the door, and officers rescued the woman shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Police observed bruising on both of her arms but said she did not require medical treatment. Castellanos Triminio was taken into custody for questioning. After being advised of his rights, he allegedly admitted to preventing her from leaving because he believed it was dangerous and acknowledged covering her mouth and nose to avoid alerting neighbors.

Jail records show Castellanos Triminio remains held without bond at the Miami-Dade County jail and is also subject to an immigration hold.
