First Lady Melania Trump visited children with rare and serious illnesses at The Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on Wednesday to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“Love reveals itself in many forms, especially in the hardest moments of care and compassion,” Mrs. Trump said.
During her visit, the First Lady joined children, families, and staff for an afternoon of arts and crafts, creating handmade valentines and enjoying Valentine’s Day-themed activities. She also took time to speak with the children and their families, offering encouragement and support.
“The Children’s Inn provides essential care to children diagnosed with rare and serious diseases,” Mrs. Trump said. “Returning here is a special reminder of the warmth that exists year-round, thanks to the resilience of these young people and the dedication of those who provide comfort, hope, and support during clinical trials. I wish them all a very happy Valentine’s Day.”
Jennie Lucca, CEO of The Children’s Inn, praised the visit. “We were deeply honored to welcome First Lady Melania Trump back,” she said. “Her presence brought joy and comfort to our children and families, reminding us that compassion and encouragement are vital throughout their medical journeys.”
An 11-year-old girl welcomed Mrs. Trump with a bouquet of roses, and the First Lady happily chatted with the children about their arts and crafts projects. When asked about her favorite music, she shared that she loves Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean.
The Children’s Inn, a nonprofit residential facility, offers a “place like home” to children, teens, and young adults participating in clinical trials at the NIH Clinical Center. Since its founding in 1990, it has helped families focus on childhood experiences while supporting cutting-edge medical research.
First Lady Melania Trump has visited The Children’s Inn for Valentine’s Day in 2018, 2019, and 2020, continuing a tradition of celebrating the resilience of children and the vital role of compassion in healing.
