San Francisco, CA — Rock band Green Day used their pre-Super Bowl performance at a Spotify and FanDuel event on Friday night at Pier 29 to make pointed remarks about immigration enforcement and members of President Donald Trump’s administration.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the audience he had a message for agents of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), urging them to reconsider their work and warning that political leaders supporting current immigration policies could abandon them in the future. During the performance, the band also altered some of their song lyrics to reference current political topics.

Background on ICE and Recent Minneapolis Incidents
The remarks come amid ongoing national attention on immigration enforcement, particularly after multiple incidents in Minneapolis involving ICE agents earlier this year. In January, 37-year-old Renée Good, a U.S. citizen, was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a federal enforcement operation, sparking protests and investigations.

A separate shooting in the same city later in January involved a federal agent injuring a person during a struggle, also drawing public scrutiny.

Alternative and Official Super Bowl Entertainment
At the Super Bowl halftime show, artist Bad Bunny is headlining the official performance. In response to political and cultural reactions around the halftime programming, conservative group Turning Point USA is hosting a separate “All-American Halftime Show” featuring acts such as Kid Rock, streaming online during the game.
