Melania Trump made a rare public comment on a political issue this week, addressing the unrest in Minneapolis during an interview on Fox News, according to USA Today.
“We need to unify,” the first lady said Tuesday when asked about the violence. “I’m calling for unity. I know my husband, the president, had a great call yesterday with the governor and the mayor, and they’re working together to make it peaceful and without riots.”
She emphasized her opposition to violence and urged demonstrators to remain peaceful. “I’m against the violence. So please, if you protest, protest in peace,” she said. The first lady did not specifically comment on the fatal shootings of two protesters.
Much of Melania Trump’s appearance on Fox & Friends focused on her upcoming documentary, Melania, which opens in theaters on Friday. She told host Ainsley Earhardt that the film gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at her work and responsibilities.
“The audience will see me—how I manage my business, my philanthropy, family preparation for the inauguration, and also establishing the East Wing for the White House,” she said, adding that the documentary covers how she handled those duties in the 20 days leading up to the inauguration.
