Former Canadian Olympic snowboarder Ryan Wedding, who was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list, has been captured in Mexico with assistance from local authorities, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Friday.

Wedding, 44, surrendered to authorities following a period of negotiations, according to sources who spoke with Fox News. While the specific terms of the surrender were not disclosed, officials said increasing pressure from U.S. law enforcement left Wedding unable to remain on the run.

Bondi announced the arrest in a post on X, stating that the Canadian national had been flown to the United States, where he will face prosecution. Sources said FBI Director Patel accompanied Wedding during the transfer.

“At my direction, Department of Justice agents @FBI have apprehended yet another member of the FBI’s Top Ten Most Wanted List: Ryan Wedding, the onetime Olympian snowboarder-turned alleged violent cocaine kingpin,” Bondi wrote. “This is a direct result of President Trump’s law-and-order leadership. Under @POTUS, criminals have no safe harbor. Director Patel has worked tirelessly to bring fugitives to justice. We are grateful to our incredible Ambassador Ron Johnson and the Mexican authorities for assisting us in this case.”

In a separate post, Patel noted that Wedding was the first fugitive added to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list during his tenure. “Now, less than a year later, he is in custody,” Patel wrote.

Patel added that Wedding is believed to have been hiding in Mexico for more than a decade and has been wanted since 2024 on charges including cocaine trafficking and murder.

“This is the sixth Top Ten Most Wanted fugitive this FBI has captured within a year — fugitives who had been on the run for nearly 40 years combined,” Patel said. “That’s no accident. President Trump is letting good cops be cops, and the results speak for themselves.”

Wedding was added to the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list in March 2025. Authorities allege he led a transnational drug trafficking network that moved hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia through Mexico and Southern California to Canada and other parts of the United States.

Prosecutors also accuse Wedding of orchestrating multiple murders and attempted murders connected to his drug operation. Wedding and 14 alleged associates are charged in connection with the January 2025 killing of a witness who was shot and killed at a restaurant in Colombia. According to an indictment unsealed in November, Wedding allegedly placed a bounty on the victim, believing the killing would lead to the dismissal of charges against him and his alleged drug network.

The FBI has described Wedding as an “extremely violent criminal believed to be responsible for the murder of numerous people abroad.”

Last month, Mexican authorities seized approximately $40 million worth of motorcycles believed to belong to Wedding. The seizure followed additional charges filed against him and an increase in the reward for information leading to his capture to $15 million.

Wedding competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City after missing the 1998 Games. It was the only Olympic competition of his career.
