An Indiana couple was left shaken after a DoorDash delivery took a frightening turn.
Doorbell camera footage from Dec. 7 shows Kourtney Stevenson, a Kentucky native with blue hair, delivering an Arby’s order to the doorstep, taking a confirmation photo, and then calmly spraying an aerosol substance onto the bag. When questioned by police, Stevenson claimed she was only trying to scare away a spider, Fox News reports.
The recipients, Mandy and Mark Cardin, said they experienced immediate illness after eating the food, including vomiting and a burning sensation in their throats and mouths.
“I noticed my wife had started eating, and she began choking and gasping,” Mark Cardin told WFIE Media. “After a couple bites, she actually threw up.”
The couple attempted to contact Stevenson through the DoorDash app but discovered she had blocked them. After reviewing the doorbell footage, they posted images on Facebook to identify the delivery worker.
Authorities in Indiana charged Stevenson with two counts of battery resulting in moderate injury and two counts of consumer package tampering. She was arrested in Kentucky and is set to be extradited to Indiana.
Mark Cardin described the incident as terrifying. “We assume it’s pepper spray. That’s more than likely what it is, but in this day and age, it could have been anything—rat poison, fentanyl. My wife could’ve been killed,” he said.
The Cardins say the experience has made them question whether they’ll ever order delivery again.
