Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) incurred nearly $50,000 in expenses for hotels, meals, and a venue rental in Puerto Rico during the third quarter of the year, according to newly filed Federal Election Commission reports.
Her campaign’s filings show multiple stays at high-end hotels on the island. On July 28, the campaign paid $680.52 for lodging at Hotel Palacio Provincial, followed by payments of $1,507.26 on August 29 and $9,440.79 on September 29. The hotel markets itself as a “first-class,” adults-only property located in a restored early-19th-century building.

Another $3,861.20 was spent on August 25 at Hotel El Convento, a historic hotel noted for its “old-world charm and elegance.”
In total, Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign spent $15,489.77 on lodging in Puerto Rico between July 1 and September 30. Filings also show at least $10,743.13 in meal and catering expenses on August 25 and September 29.

The campaign additionally rented a venue in San Juan where Ocasio-Cortez was recorded attending an August Bad Bunny concert.
These expenditures come as the congresswoman has frequently criticized the gentrification pressures affecting Puerto Rico.
