Marjorie Taylor Greene appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday, and the departing congresswoman did not use the interview to reconcile with President Trump. In a wide-ranging discussion with Lesley Stahl, Greene offered sharp criticism of both Trump and her fellow Republicans.
Private ridicule: Greene said many Republican lawmakers privately mocked Trump before publicly aligning with him. “It would shock people,” she told Stahl. She claimed she watched colleagues ridicule Trump’s manner of speaking, only to reverse course after he won the 2024 primary. “They all started—excuse my language, Lesley—kissing his a– and decided to put on a MAGA hat for the first time,” Greene said. She added that many Republicans avoid criticizing Trump publicly out of fear of retaliation on Truth Social.
Broken promises: Greene accused President Trump of failing to deliver on key campaign pledges. “For an America First president, the No. 1 focus should have been domestic policy, and it wasn’t,” she said. Greene said her criticism stemmed from promises she made to voters. She described herself as “America First,” distinguishing that from “MAGA,” which she noted is President Trump’s phrase.
‘Traitor’ label: Greene said threats against her and her family spiked after Trump criticized her publicly. “The subject line for the direct death threats on my son was his words: ‘Marjorie Traitor Greene,’” she said. Greene claimed she informed Trump about the threats but received what she described as an “extremely unkind” response, without providing further details.
Continued criticism: Greene also objected to Trump’s use of the term “traitor,” noting it came during a period when he met with controversial foreign and domestic figures. She cited his engagement with the Syrian leader once affiliated with al-Qaeda, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and New York City’s newly elected Democratic Socialist mayor. “That was the time span that he called me a traitor,” Greene said.
