White Coat Waste Exposes US Navy’s Cruel Taxpayer-Funded Experiments on Vulnerable Monkeys in Peru

A new investigation by government watchdog White Coat Waste (WCW) has exposed ongoing, taxpayer-funded experiments on primates at a high-risk US Navy pathogen lab in Peru.

The probe shows that the Naval Medical Research Unit South (NAMRU South) is using threatened monkey species in painful and deadly experiments involving E. coli, malaria, dengue, diarrhea, and other dangerous pathogens—all funded by American taxpayers.

Journalist Laura Loomer first reported WCW’s findings, noting that NAMRU South purchases dozens of “Nancy Ma’s night monkeys” and intentionally infects them with malaria, diarrhea, and other illnesses. As a Biosafety Level 3 lab, NAMRU South handles pathogens that can be lethal to humans. WCW calls it a “high-risk bioagent lab,” highlighting the extreme danger and ethical concerns of these experiments.

The investigation revealed that Nancy Ma’s night monkeys, a species officially listed as threatened, are being subjected to these experiments. Disturbing photos and videos obtained by WCW show the monkeys confined in cages, tattooed for identification, and prepared for transport to the lab.

The experiments are not only cruel but also a significant waste of taxpayer dollars. Active Navy contracts for primate purchases remain in place, with some funding dating back to the Biden administration and set to continue until at least 2028 unless the Pentagon intervenes.

“NAMRU South and its primate tests are currently funded by over $28 million in active DOD grants and contracts issued under the Biden Administration, some of which are scheduled to run through 2028,” WCW reports. Records indicate that monkey experiments at NAMRU South have been funded with tax dollars by the Department of Defense, Dr. Fauci’s NIH division, the CDC, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and USAID.

WCW Senior Vice President Justin Goodman said in a statement to The Gateway Pundit:

“White Coat Waste’s investigation exposes how the US Naval Medical Research Unit in Peru is wasting tax dollars to purchase threatened primates for cruel and deadly experiments. Biden-era funding for primate testing is set to continue through as late as 2028. We urge Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Navy Secretary John Phelan to cut these contracts immediately, just as they halted dog and cat testing earlier this year following WCW’s investigations. Taxpayers should not be forced to fund this dangerous, cruel, and wasteful program abroad. The solution is simple: stop the money, stop the madness!”

Loomer added:

“We must shut down the lab and end taxpayer-funded animal abuse at the US Navy!”

Earlier this year, Navy Secretary John Phelan banned all testing on dogs and cats, crediting WCW’s advocacy. Similarly, under the Trump administration, the CDC is shutting down its primate labs following pressure from WCW, demonstrating that decisive action can end taxpayer-funded animal abuse. Defense Secretary Hegseth and Secretary Phelan now have the opportunity to do the same for the Peruvian monkey experiments.
