Dear Abby:
I’m an openly lesbian woman, with just a couple of brief relationships under my belt. I’m not butch, but I do have a more masculine side—I never wear makeup or dress “girly,” sticking mostly to jeans and T-shirts. I also have a collection of home-done tattoos that… let’s just say, aren’t exactly museum-worthy.
My daughter is getting married next year, and she wants me, as the mother of the bride, to wear a dress. I feel terrible in dresses and, honestly, I don’t think I look good in them. I asked if I could wear a suit, but she’s not thrilled with that idea.
I have a year to figure this out. Should I compromise and wear a dress she likes, or should I prioritize comfort and authenticity with a suit?
