A massive protest against rising insecurity and government corruption in Mexico City escalated into violence on Saturday, November 15, as demonstrators clashed with riot police outside the National Palace.

Thousands of protesters marched from the Angel of Independence monument, winding through multiple streets and avenues before arriving at the Zócalo, the capital’s main square and the location of the National Palace, which serves as the office of President Claudia Sheinbaum.

Tensions flared when masked demonstrators tore down metal barriers guarding the palace, prompting riot police to respond with tear gas and smoke bombs. Protesters pushed and kicked at the fences, while some threw stones at officers.
