Jack Schlossberg, the only grandson of President John F. Kennedy and now a Democratic candidate for Congress in New York’s 12th District, is facing backlash after a resurfaced video showed him performing a Nazi salute.
The clip — briefly posted to Schlossberg’s Instagram in January before being deleted — appears to show the 32-year-old raising his arm in the gesture several times while smiling at the camera and saying, “Yo, yo, check this out.” The video went viral this week, prompting criticism as Schlossberg launches his campaign for the seat soon to be vacated by Rep. Jerrold Nadler. New York’s 12th District covers the Upper East Side, Upper West Side, and Midtown Manhattan and is the wealthiest district in the country by per-capita income.
Schlossberg formally announced his candidacy on Instagram, writing that the United States is at “a turning point” and describing what he called a nationwide crisis touching everything from living costs to corruption.

In his post, Schlossberg sharply criticized President Trump, accusing him of benefiting financially while in office and of eroding civil liberties. He claimed one man now holds “control of all three branches of government,” and argued that winning back the House of Representatives is essential to countering what he views as an increasingly dangerous political environment.
He emphasized his ties to the district where he grew up, rode the bus to school, and still lives, saying he wants to represent “the best part of the greatest city on Earth.” He pledged to listen to constituents’ concerns and turn “the creativity, energy, and drive” of the district into influence in Washington.
Schlossberg also noted that he intends to meet as many residents as possible over the coming months: “If you see me on the street, please say hello. If I knock on your door, I hope we can have a conversation. Because politics should be personal.”

This is not the first time Schlossberg has drawn attention for his remarks. He was previously criticized after attacking his cousin, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., calling him “a dangerous person” and “a rabid dog” during an interview.
Schlossberg accused the Trump administration of using RFK Jr. for what he described as political theater, claiming, “[Trump] is so obsessed with the Kennedys… that he caged one and put it in his cabinet.” He further alleged that RFK Jr. was “spreading lies and spreading misinformation,” adding that Americans should question “who’s actually talking” when RFK Jr. speaks.
