Tensions are rising between President Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene after the Georgia Republican’s recent criticism of the president’s priorities. Once one of Trump’s most loyal allies, Greene has become increasingly vocal in challenging his focus on foreign policy, prompting Trump to publicly distance himself from her this week.

“I don’t know what happened to Marjorie,” President Trump told reporters Monday in the Oval Office, according to USA Today. “She’s a nice woman, but I don’t know what happened. She’s lost her way, I think.”

Greene quickly fired back on X, writing, “I haven’t lost my way. I’m 100% America First and only!” Her post came after earlier comments questioning the president’s attention to global affairs—specifically his recent meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. “I would really like to see nonstop meetings at the White House on domestic policy, not foreign policy and foreign country’s leaders,” she wrote.

Responding to Greene’s remarks, Trump suggested she was pandering to critics. “When somebody like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who’s now catering to the other side, I guess she’s got some kind of act going, but I’m surprised at her,” he said. “When somebody like Marjorie goes over and starts making statements like that, it shows she doesn’t know.” He added that his approach to the presidency requires a global perspective: “We could have a world that’s on fire, where wars come to our shores very easily if you had a bad president.”

Greene, long known for her hardline stances and MAGA credentials, has also intensified criticism of GOP leadership, recently taking aim at House Speaker Mike Johnson over what she calls a lack of progress on healthcare reform. During her Monday remarks, she urged President Trump to “start by hauling in” health insurance company CEOs to address rising costs, according to The Washington Post.

In recent weeks, Greene has also expressed frustration that the Republican-led House was not in session during a government funding standoff, calling it an “embarrassment” during an appearance on The View. She has continued to call for the release of the Epstein files and has denied rumors of a 2028 presidential run, telling NewsNation that her priority remains representing her congressional district.

Meanwhile, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has offered her own theory about Greene’s recent shift. Speaking on Instagram Live last week, Ocasio-Cortez claimed Greene had sought to run for Senate in Georgia earlier this year but was blocked. “Trump said no, and the White House and Trump Land shut down Marjorie Taylor Greene’s personal ambitions to run for Senate—and she has been on a revenge tour ever since,” Ocasio-Cortez said, according to Fox News.
